What's it all about?
TradingStandards.com is not affiliated with tradingstandards.gov.uk and is not government endorsed. We have no legal powers and operate solely on a voluntary basis.

TradingStandards.com is intended to be a WWW notice board where you will be able to find information about companies you are planning to do business with.
Obviously the main inclusions will be companies or businesses that have developed a bad reputation due to their poor service, low quality goods or bad customer support.

We would like to hear about any particularly bad or good experiences you have had with companies, and not just on the web, but in everyday life. This could be anything from chain stores to plumbers, mail order catalogues to telecom companies..
If you think a company is particularly good and worth doing business with then why not let others know.
Equally if you have had bad experiences, lost money, been ignored or generally ripped off by a company, this is the place to make them look bad and drive business into the arms of their competitors.

Need Help?

If we receive a number of complaints about the same company then we will contact this company with details of all these complaints and insist they provide solutions to the satisfaction of all the customers. Companies who fail to respond to our requests will be informed that their behaviour will be publicly announced on this web site, adding to their humility. No company likes to be made to look bad or lose business, thus most are forced to step back and make efforts to improve their current service.

We will also endeavour to help out in one off or individual cases if they are considered to be worthwhile causes, I.E a lot of money is involved or the situation is particularly extreme or causing mental/health/physical problems etc.

Before we can take any action in particular cases we do require some sort of proof or documentation to backup your report/claim. This could be invoices, receipts, copies of correspondence etc.

In the pipeline
  • As we start to get feedback and the messagebaord gets used, a database will be incorporated into the site that will allow you to search for a company by name and view all the comments from other people who have done business with them. Plus you will be able to add your own comments.
  • A NetTrading Standards certificate service. Web traders will be able to show a special certificate on their site to say they are certified NetTrading Standards authorised traders.
This will mean that the company adheres to our code of conduct, does not have a bad track record and is much more un-likely to mess you about.
  • Online advertising and merchant directory. We will have an area for merchants to show their banners and advertise their wares, but only if they are cetificate holders.
